As they say, the best skin care tip for your 40s is to use sunscreen in your 20s and 30s. It’s now common knowledge that sunscreen is a must for skin health and preservation. Unfortunately, a lot of the common varieties contain harmful chemicals that can be detrimental to your health. Here are a few options for clean facial sunscreens that will keep you safe all summer long.

If you’re looking to wear sunscreen under your make-up, try:

Suntegrity Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen and Primer

The Cadillac of facial sunscreens, Suntegrity offers an excellent option to protect and prime your skin. Perfect for underneath makeup, this sunscreen offers second-to-none protection while giving your skin the moisture it needs. The only drawbacks are that it’s a little pricey at $45, but you get a good amount with your purchase. Also, it takes a while to rub in so use sparingly to cover the amount that you need.

If you need sunscreen for a day at the beach, try:

Juice Beauty SPF 30 Oil-Free Moisturizer

Probably one of my favorite go-to brands, Juice Beauty knows how to make products that work without the toxins. This sunscreen contains 30 SPF without oil that makes you break out. Make sure to reapply, particularly if you go swimming, and remember that it’s oil-free. So, if you have dry skin, it might not go on as smoothly. You can add a carrier oil if that’s the case, such as coconut oil to bring more of the moisture back in. If you have sensitive skin that’s prone to breakouts, this sunscreen might be the one for you.

If you’re looking for a cream-based foundation with SPF, try:

Suntegrity 5-in-1 Tinted Moisturizing Face Sunscreen

Suntegrity does it again with their 5-in-1 Tinted Moisturizing Face Sunscreen. Created with organic ingredients like aloe and green tea to soothe irritated skin, this sunscreen helps to protect, moisturize and provide coverage. The Environmental Working Group put this one on their “Best Moisturizer with SPF” list in 2019, showing how versatile it is for most skin types. The tint is relatively subtle, so you may need to layer with another foundation depending on your skin tone.

If you’re looking for a mineral powder with SPF, try:

Ilia Tinted Radiant Translucent Powder

Ilia Tinted Radiant Translucent Powder boasts 20 SPF along with its gorgeous finish on top of make-up or bare skin. It only comes in two colors since it’s pretty sheer, but the formula is really smooth so that it doesn’t clog pores or layer too thick. I love dusting it over my makeup or moisturizer to protect my skin while simultaneously making it look polished.
